Mentone Lifesaving Club
08:00 – 13:00
Hi Everyone, Join us for a fun "intro downbreezer" from Mentone SLSC to Seaford Pier one way When: Saturday 16th May 2026. Arrive at 7.30am to set up your board. Safety briefing at 7.55am , on the water shortly after. Finish approx. 12.30pm Estimated distance is 14km Where: Mentone Surf Life Saving Club. Paid parking close to the club, free parking along the road. Paddle details: Launching from Mentone SLSC, we’ll cruise south with a nice ~12kn tailwind towards Seaford Pier, taking in the scenery without a worry about having to paddle back into the wind because we're getting on the train 200m from the pier to bring us home . We’ll grab the customary coffee and converse as we ride the free train with views over the bay back to Mentone. Skill level: This is an intermediate level and fitness paddle — whilst wind-assisted, it's still about 14km. Equipment: - Inflatable board is most suitable (if you have to use a hard board we’ll try to pair you up for a car shuffle) - Backpack / straps / wheels for carrying your deflated board 500m (Some "Red" boards have a detachable lightweight backpack - pics to follow) - Life jackets are optional, but recommended. Kids 11 years and under MUST have a life jacket on at all times. - You must have a leg rope for this social paddle. - Food/water as this is a longer paddle - Appropriate wet weather gear as it's getting colder - MYKI or no MYKI as its free this month (good to get practice though) This is a free paddle but for club members only. This paddle will be weather dependent, so make sure you watch for updates. This may include changes to the start time, start/finish points or a cancellation if the weather is deemed unsafe to proceed. A final update will be provided by Friday.  Nick Christie @ the SUP Melbourne Crew ph 0411 053 753 https://www.facebook.com/groups/615926583929065/events

Everyone must have at least one white light on the deck of your board. Headlamps and bike lights are NOT suitable, as you’ll blind the other paddles. At minimum, this light from Kmart is great - https://www.kmart.com.au/pro.../bulb-tent-light-42463542/... Just zip tie or tape it to your board. Sorry, this paddle is not suitable for first timers, and no pets. There are quite a few slow moving power boat’s enjoying the lights as well, so the we will get a lot of boat wakes. You need to feel confident paddling for about 2 hours in the dark, at a slow casual pace. Feel free to dress up your board with some fun fairy lights or led lights.
